Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias may create a difficult and challenging journey. At Reflections, we help residents and families though each stage of the disease process. Our specialty environment, joyful moment’s program and fully trained staff help acclimate our residents quickly. The individualized verses group approach helps us to identify each resident’s strength so that life is full of purpose and positive experiences.
Our Hand in Hand training course is part of the initial employee orientation. Through the orientation process, the staff will gain further education on how to work specifically with residents who suffer from memory loss. The experienced staff will learn how to treat the resident as a “whole”, using a social model – not the typical medical model. Our fully trained medical staff realizes the importance of understanding the following symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Dementia:
- Communication barriers
- Behavioral issues such as wandering, combativeness, verbal outbursts, repetition, etc.
- Preventative approaches
- Using past and current interests to engage the individual
